Toviaz Side Effects

Although most people do not experience any problems while taking Toviaz, it's possible for side effects to occur. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported with this medication include dry mouth, constipation, nausea, and indigestion or heartburn. While most side effects of Toviaz are minor, some are potentially serious and require immediate medical attention, such as heat stroke, severe constipation, and difficulty urinating.

An Introduction to Toviaz Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Toviaz^™ (fesoterodine fumarate); however, not everyone who takes the drug will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects of Toviaz

Toviaz has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and are then compared to side effects that occur in another group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group taking the placebo.

In these studies, the most common Toviaz side effects included:

Dry mouth -- in up to 34.6 percent of people (see Toviaz and Dry Mouth)
Constipation -- up to 6 percent (see Toviaz and Constipation)
Urinary tract infection (UTI or bladder infection) -- up to 4.2 percent
Dry eyes -- up to 3.7 percent
Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 2.3 percent
Dry throat -- up to 2.3 percent.

Other common side effects, occurring in 1 to 2 percent of people, included (but were not limited to):

Nausea
Upper abdominal pain
Painful urination
Cough
Fluid retention, especially in the hands or feet
Back pain
Insomnia.
