Warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to taking Ditropan XL include the following:
The kidneys and liver help to remove Ditropan XL from your body. If you have kidney or liver disease, you may require extra monitoring by your healthcare provider, and you may need to take a lower Ditropan XL dosage.
Ditropan XL can slow your digestive tract. This can be a problem, especially if you already have a slow digestive tract due to other medical conditions.
The outer shells of Ditropan XL tablets do not dissolve. You may see them in your stools, but this is not a problem. However, if you have a narrowing (a stricture) anywhere in your digestive tract, Ditropan XL tablets could become stuck, since they do not dissolve.
Ditropan XL can cause blurred vision, dizziness, and drowsiness. Be sure to see how the medication affects you before drive or operate heavy machinery.
Ditropan XL is considered a pregnancy Category B medication. This means that it is probably safe for use during pregnancy, although the full risks are not known (see Ditropan XL and Pregnancy).
It is not known if Ditropan XL passes through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or plan to start, discuss this with your healthcare provider prior to taking the drug (see Ditropan XL and Breastfeeding).
