Detrol LA Drug Interactions

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Detrol LA is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

 

Taking Detrol LA with an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor can make both medications less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and adjust your dose of these medications to prevent interactions from occurring.

 

Combining an anticholinergic medication with Detrol LA (which is also an anticholinergic medication) can increase your risk of Detrol LA side effects, such as dry mouth, constipation, dry eyes, or difficulty passing urine.

 

Some antibiotic or antifungal medications may increase the level of Detrol LA in your blood. Your healthcare provider may recommend that you take a lower Detrol LA dosage if you are taking certain antibiotics or antifungals.

 

Taking cyclosporine and Detrol LA together can increase the level of Detrol LA in your blood. If you are taking cyclosporine, your healthcare provider may recommend that you take a lower dose of Detrol LA.

 

Studies have suggested that high Detrol LA dosages (at least twice the recommended dose) can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm called QT prolongation. Combining Detrol LA with other QT-prolonging medications may increase this risk. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

 

Both pramlintide and anticholinergic medications (including Detrol LA) can slow down the movement of food through the digestive tract. Taking them together can increase the risk of constipation or nausea. Talk with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.
