Detrol LA and Breastfeeding
It may not be safe for certain people to take Detrol LA. Breastfeeding women, for example, should use caution while taking the drug, because it is not known whether Detrol LA passes through breast milk. If you are taking Detrol LA and breastfeeding is recommended by a healthcare provider, be sure to watch for any side effects in your child.
It is unknown if Detrol® LA (tolterodine ER) passes through breast milk in women. The manufacturer recommends that women not breastfeed while taking the drug.
Detrol LA is known to pass through breast milk in mice. However, no studies have been conducted to determine if Detrol LA passes through breast milk in humans. If your healthcare provider recommends that you take Detrol LA while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your infant.
You should talk with your healthcare provider about Detrol LA and breastfeeding. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision about Detrol LA and breastfeeding that is right for you.
